Mako Technology Labs LLC ("Mako," "we," "us") publishes mobile and web apps including BiteSignal. This Privacy Policy explains how this app collects, uses, and protects information.
BiteSignal collects the following categories of information:
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address (or a private relay address) and a unique user identifier. This information is used to create and manage your account. We do not receive or store your Apple ID password, Google password, or payment credentials.
BiteSignal stores your fishing data — trips, sessions, catches, spots, species, baits, notes, and preferences — in a local on-device database. If you are signed in, this data is also synced to our cloud service (hosted on Supabase) so it can be backed up and restored across devices. Your fishing data is associated with your account and is not shared with other users or third parties.
If you attach photos to your catch records, they are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in, photos are also uploaded to secure cloud storage (Supabase Storage) and associated with your account. Photos are private and are not shared with other users or third parties.
BiteSignal requests access to your device's location to provide accurate fishing conditions for your area. Location data is:
You may also set a location manually within the app without granting GPS access.
BiteSignal uses Mixpanel to collect anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand how the app is used so we can improve it. Analytics data includes app launches, screen views, and in-app actions such as logging a catch or starting a trip. It does not include the content of your fishing records (species names, notes, photos, etc.).
Analytics events are associated with your account user ID so we can understand usage patterns at the individual and aggregate level. This data is used solely for product improvement and is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.
If you create an account by signing in with Apple or Google, your fishing data and photos are synced to our cloud infrastructure hosted on Supabase (a hosted PostgreSQL service). This enables:
Your cloud data is protected by row-level security policies that ensure only you can access your own data. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS).
If you use BiteSignal without signing in, your data remains local to your device and is not uploaded to any server.
BiteSignal uses the following third-party services to provide core functionality:
We do not share or sell user data. BiteSignal does not include advertising networks or advertising identifiers.
BiteSignal Pro subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect or have access to your payment card number, bank account, or Apple ID credentials. Subscription status is verified through RevenueCat using anonymous device identifiers.
Fishing data stored locally on your device is protected by the security features of your operating system. Data synced to our cloud service is stored in a secured Supabase project with row-level security, encrypted at rest, and transmitted over TLS. Photos are stored in private cloud storage buckets accessible only to your account.
Your data is retained as long as your account exists. You have full control over your data and may delete it at any time by:
If you use BiteSignal without an account, all data is stored locally and is permanently deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
BiteSignal is intended for general use and is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, features, or legal requirements. When updates are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.
