Effective Date: September 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how RollJournal ("we", "us", or "our"), operated by Mako Technology Labs, LLC, handles information when you use the RollJournal mobile app.
The short version: RollJournal has no accounts and no server. Your training logs, focus areas, favorites, and every other piece of training data you enter stay on your device, in a local database, for as long as you keep the app installed. We never see it, store it, or transmit it anywhere.
There is no sign-up, login, or account of any kind. We don't ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying information, and we have no server to send it to even if we wanted to. Every training log, focus area, favorite, technique note, and belt promotion you record is written directly to a SQLite database stored locally on your device.
We use a privacy-focused analytics tool (PostHog) to understand which features people actually use — for example, that someone completed onboarding, created a log, or opened the Stats tab. These events:
RollJournal offers an optional feature to write your BJJ training sessions to your device's health platform (Health Connect on Android or Apple Health on iOS).
Settings → Backup lets you export your data as a JSON file, which your device's own share sheet then lets you save, email, or upload wherever you choose (Files, Drive, iCloud, etc.). That's entirely under your control — we never see or receive a copy of it.
Settings → General → Danger Zone has a Delete Account button. Tapping it permanently and immediately wipes every training log, focus area, favorite, and setting from your device. There's no waiting period and nothing to request by email, because there's no server-side copy to go find and delete — deleting it on your device is the whole process. Uninstalling the app has the same effect.
The only outside parties involved at all are PostHog (anonymous product analytics, described above) and, if you turn it on, your device's own Health Connect or Apple Health platform. We don't use Auth0, Clerk, Stripe, OpenAI, or any other third-party service — this version of RollJournal doesn't have accounts, subscriptions, or AI features. We don't sell, rent, or share your information, because we don't have any to sell.
RollJournal includes belt-rank tracking for both adult and kids' BJJ programs, so the app is sometimes used by or on behalf of younger athletes (typically with a parent or guardian operating the device). Because RollJournal never collects names, emails, or any other personal information from anyone, regardless of age, there's nothing for us to hold or need to delete.
If this policy changes, the updated version will ship with the app update and be available at this policy page.
