Privacy Policy

Mako Technology Labs LLC ("Mako," "we," "us") publishes mobile and web apps including TideSignal. This Privacy Policy explains how TideSignal collects, uses, stores, and protects information.

Information We Collect

TideSignal is designed as a practical tide utility. The app does not require an account and does not sell user data.

Saved Tide Locations and Preferences

TideSignal stores saved tide locations, selected tide stations, display preferences, and cached tide forecast data locally on your device. This information is used to show your saved locations, preferred tide height units, preferred time format, and recently loaded tide data.

Location Data

TideSignal may request access to your device's location to find nearby NOAA tide stations. Location data is:

• Used only while the app is open or when you actively request nearby tide stations
• Used to identify nearby NOAA tide stations and display relevant tide information
• Not used for advertising or third-party tracking
• Not sold to data brokers

You can also search for tide stations manually without granting GPS access.

Cached Tide Data

TideSignal may cache tide forecasts and station data locally on your device so recently viewed tide information can load faster or remain available when your connection is limited. Cached data is stored on your device and may be deleted through the app's settings or by uninstalling the app.

Diagnostics and Platform Data

The App may receive basic platform-provided information necessary for normal operation, such as app version, device operating system, and app store platform. TideSignal does not use advertising identifiers or third-party tracking technologies.

Cloud Sync and Storage

TideSignal does not currently provide user accounts or cloud sync. Saved locations, preferences, and cached tide data are stored locally on your device. If you uninstall the app, clear app storage, reset your device, or use the app's delete data feature, this local data may be permanently deleted.

Third-Party Services

TideSignal uses third-party services to provide core functionality:

• NOAA Tides & Currents - Tide predictions and tide station data. Public domain, operated by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov
• Device Location Services - Used only when you grant permission to find nearby tide stations.
• Apple Maps / Google Maps - May be used to display maps or nearby tide stations, depending on platform and app configuration.

We do not share or sell user data. TideSignal does not include advertising, advertising identifiers, or third-party tracking technologies.

Payment Data

TideSignal does not currently process subscriptions or in-app purchases. If paid features are added in the future, payments will be processed through the applicable app store or payment provider. We will not collect or store your payment card number, bank account, Apple ID password, Google password, or payment credentials.

Data Security

Data stored locally on your device is protected by the security features of your operating system. TideSignal does not currently upload saved locations, preferences, or cached tide data to Mako cloud servers.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because TideSignal stores app data locally on your device, you control that data. You may delete local data by:

• Removing individual saved tide locations within the app
• Using the "Delete All Local Data" option in the app's Settings screen
• Uninstalling the app
• Clearing app storage through your device settings

Deleting local data removes saved tide locations, selected station, display preferences, and cached tide forecast data from that device.

Children's Privacy

TideSignal is intended for general use and is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, features, or legal requirements. When updates are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.
